The magical creature that is Audrey turned 3 today. I can't believe she is so big already. Really, I can't believe she even exists. I look at her sometimes and am blown away that in such a short time, this amazing little person was grown in my belly, born, and is now a fully mobile and chatty real person. With very strong opinions.
Audrey loves pink. Did you know that? When she was first born, I was like "Eff this idea that girls have to wear pink all the time! My girl will wear whatever she wants." And it turns out that my girl wants to wear pink All.The.Time. She is also a fan of Hello Kitty. Or really anything having to do with any kind of kitty. So she chose to wear a Hello Kitty shirt to school today, along with a Hello Kitty tattoo on her forearm, and a Hello Kitty necklace (not pictured).
On Friday, we both went to a local salon and got colored extensions put in our hair. She picked pink, of course, and I went with purple. Audrey's looks way more awesome in her hair than mine does. (Wade jokingly calls this our "white trash hair" and it cracks me up.)
This day wouldn't be complete without the full transformation into a Real Three-Year-Old if she didn't have a full meltdown. Which she did. I remember Julian's third year as the year that I actually went to a therapist because he was such a beast that I needed advice on how to deal. So I'm prepared.
We are having a small family party on Saturday for her, where her cake of choice will be chocolate with strawberry filling, and white chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream icing. (The icing was totally my choice. Her only specification was that it has to be pink. Heh.)
Her big present is going to be a big girl bed from Ikea. I'm sure she'll pick out some pink sheets too.
Happy Birthday, sweet Audrey. You have brought so much joy into our lives and our family is complete with you in it. Every day that we get to know you is a lucky one.

Happy birday cake to Supah Auddie!!!! What a sweet little lady.
happy bday to sweet audrey! and also someone else (or two) related to her! love you all... and your trashy hair...
Happy Birfday, Audrey! Welcome to the wonderful world of 3. I can totally relate to wanting to go see a therapist- even with my second one; 3 is not only a magical number, it's a magical year full of the crazies. Her whit trash hair looks awesome- I bet she totally loves it.
Happy birthday Audrey! She's just too cute, and I can't wait to see her big girl bed.
Pink hair?! That girl is a total rockstar. I love that you let her embrace all her favorites. I remember telling Andrew when I was pregnant with Emil (who I was sure was a girl in utero) that no girl child of mine would be wearing all pink and princesses! Hello Kitty is so much better than cinderella. In my opinion. That princess crap makes me nauseous.
And I genuinely hope Audrey doesn't go all apeshit like Oliver has. Three has to be the most ridiculous age-- all temper, no reason. Actual conversation with him yesterday:
Oliver: I want grilled CHEEEEEESSE!
Me: Okay, that sounds good!
Oliver: NOOOOO! I don't like grilled cheese!
Me: No problem. What would you like instead?
Oliver: GRILLED CHEESE!
Seriously. God help me.
Thank you!! I hope she gets to meet you in person one day. :)
Thanks, sisterwife! If you guys ever move back to W-S (PLEAAAAAASE) I am going to peer pressure you into getting white trash hair too.
Thanks! 3 is crazy. The whole thing about "terrible twos" is such a lie. It's really "batshit crazy threes." And dude. She LOVES her white trash hair. She makes me find the pink strand for her at bedtime, and she holds it and says, "I love my pink hair." Awww. Such a cute little white trash baby.
Thanks! I am looking forward to getting it even though it's Ikea. It was the only thing we could find that was affordable enough. Have you looked at bed prices lately? $800 for a twin bed frame is crazy to me.
The princess stuff bothers me too. Audrey really loves the princesses, but doesn't know who they are at all because I'm a jerk and haven't let her watch the movies yet. Because old Disney movies are fucked up and scary. And really, the whole princess thing is so…..entitled? I guess that's the word I'm looking for. The idea that your little girl is a princess and more special than anyone and should be the center of the universe - that is disgusting to me. So Audrey loves the Disney princesses when she sees them, but only knows them as "Those byoo-ful girls!" Heh.
Three is the worst. You are absolutely correct about it being all temper, no reason. Julian was super horrible and would regularly take off at full speed in crowded places and give me panic attacks. I actually had to be the asshole parent who got one of those monkey backpacks where the tail is the leash because I was so nervous about him taking off in a parking lot or something and getting hit by a car.
That Oliver conversation cracked me up. Oh, Oliver.
They grow so fast. My little girl will turn 2 soon, she looks so pretty :)

THREEEEE? No es posible. This is random and a tiny bit stalkerish, but the first time I started following you on Twitter was when Whole Foods re-tweeted a comment you made about your pregnant self coming to steal all their chocolate. It doesn't feel like that was very long ago and yet, this little person with pink hair is evidence that 3+ years have flown right by. (For you too, I'm sure.) Happy Birthday, cute girl!
Oh fun! Really fun. I get crazy nostalgic and excited for my babies birthdays (Lucy hasn't technically had one yet but we just celebrated 5 months with cake!). I'm so with you on the pink. And somehow it ended up being Soleil's fave colour. How? Audrey looks so so fun and super loved. Lucky child. Soleil is 4 this month. Just wow. I always look at her and think you didn't even EXIST that long ago? Where were you before you were here? WHO ARE YOU? Soleil's gift for 3 was a big girl bed and it was a double from Ikea - little peanut in a big bed. So cute. Happy bday!!
Duuuuude! Not stalkerish at all! Actually, I'm impressed that you even remembered that! I don't remember saying it at all, but it's absolutely the kind of threat I would make. Ha! And indeed, it has flown by so quickly. Except for that whole neversleeping bit. That took FOREVER.
It's crazy to think about! That you can think back to the time before they were born and were just an idea…it's mind blowing. So cool that Soleil got a double bed! Audrey's getting a little twin one because her room is crazy tiny. But their stuff is so cool and affordable. It's great.
Audrey is NOT three. It's not possible. Weren't you just taking belly photos and calling her "Nutella Butterfinger"?
