Last week Audrey had her first visit to the dentist for a cleaning. She was beyond awesome and compliant and I was so proud of her. She picked out a sticky lizard toy that had a small handle on its tail, and when you hold the tail and sling it, the lizard will stretch and stick to whatever it touches. We stopped at the grocery store for a few items on the way home, and she slung that lizard all over the place and greatly enjoyed herself.

We just found this video that we took of the kids about 6 months ago, singing Brandi Carlile's "Keep Your Heart Young" . They are both so cute and funny, and my voice is super annoying, and Wade's grandparents are in the background clapping off the beat. It's fantastic, but I don't blame you one bit if you don't want to watch it because sometimes having to sit through several minutes worth of video of other people's kids just isn't what you want to do. You know?

Sadly, the big girl bed that we promised Audrey from Ikea is no longer in stock at our local store, and is being discontinued. Balls, man. Just balls. But we are very seriously tossing around the idea of building this bed from Ana White's plans as it looks fairly simple and would cost about half of what we would have paid for the Ikea bed, and is going to be made of solid wood instead of particle board. So it seems like a good plan. Have you guys ever built furniture on your own before? I consider myself to be very crafty, but haven't dabbled in furniture yet even though we have a good setup with tools and saws and stuff. If I cut my finger off in the process maybe I'll do a giveaway on here and send one lucky reader my finger stump in the mail.

We got news today that we have a pretty significant leak in our water line that runs from the city connection at the street and hooks up to our house. Ordinarily this would be a costly endeavor on its own to repair, but when this house was built in the 70s, the water connection was placed at the street….in front of the extra lot by our house. This means that our water connection runs over an entire acre full of trees and crazy overgrowth, and we have no idea where the leak is. So we're going to have to cough up at least the deductible on our homeowner's insurance to have it fixed, if insurance will even cover it. When we were robbed a couple of years ago, they were rat bastards and didn't cover much at all. So we'll see. It always seems to happen this way though, right? Wade is in the process of getting some side work on another movie and we were looking forward to having a small chunk of extra cash to cushion us, but womp womp woooooomp. Water leak. Ain't nobody got time for that!

For the longest time, I have wanted to buy water kefir grains and start brewing my own water kefir like the proper dirty hippie that I claim to be. And I finally did it and bought myself a hippie birthday present. They arrived a few days ago and I had to rehydrate them first, and now they are currently brewing. I have never tasted water kefir, but do enjoy kombucha, so I think it will be similar. It's supposed to be crazy healthy and probiotic and a fizzy soda alternative. Not that I ever drink soda anyway. But still. Hippie elixir. Yes. I'll keep you all updated on the growth of my kefir. (And since I'm a 12-year-old boy, I keep calling it "queefer" and laughing about it like an idiot. I'm sorry.)

I have never heard of water kefir but now I have this crazy desire to come over and drink it with you so we can sit around and joke about drinking queefer together!
If it's good, I'll give you some queefer! And the grains are supposed to multiply, so if you'd like to try your hand at taking care of bacteria critters and drinking their pee, I will gladly split some off for you when they grow.
That bed looks awesome and I totally think you have the skillz to tackle it.
I watched that video and I kept thinking that Julian is the coolest brother in the world -- do you know any other boys that would sing with their little sisters? I don't.
this is the best post ever, minus the leaky water thing. Ain't nobody got time for that!
when other jeff was our roommate, he build a bed, which was basically like a short, rickety table with a mattress on top. you can make a bed out of anything.
and, that video kind of cracks me up. i love that they're singing together. i love it.
There's nothing better than Audrey singing her little heart out. And your voice sounds so nice, too! And I have to agree. Julian keeps getting cooler by the minute. What a sweet big brother!
You are such a hippie.
Our house in NC was old, built in 1958. When we lived there, it was the driest summer on record, and the well dried up. We could either pay to drill down, or pay to tap into the city water line waaaay out by the road. We tapped into the city water, to the tune of 2K, and then I sold my soul to pay for it.
Home ownership is not for the faint of heart.
He is pretty awesome. I thank him all the time for not being too cool to play with his little sister.
EFF THE LEAK! EFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
Oh, man. Wade decided that ain't nobody got time for bed building either, and we bought one on Overstock a couple of nights ago. Haaa!
This makes me think of that guy who, about 10 years ago, built all his furniture out of FedEx boxes.
Oh man. You're very kind to say my voice is nice - because I think my speaking voice is absolutely the worst and I cringe every time I hear it.
Yeah. I'm kind of sick of it when it comes to having to shell out for un-fun repairs when instead we could be building cool things and adding fun upgrades. Eff that crap, man.
